Witt O�Brien�s is seeking an experienced Government Affairs Specialist for our Washington, D.C. office to work as part of the Government Relations team of lobbyists. This position will provide support and advocacy towards the company�s and client�s priority legislative, regulatory, and executive branch officials. This position will enhance Witt O�Brien�s energy industry presence and expand our network of contacts and relationships with policymakers. This position requires the development and maintenance of strong working relationships with the energy industry, members of Congress, Congressional staff, the federal executive branch, and other national policy-makers.
Duties:Essential Job Functions:
� Advocates and coordinates support for company and clients� positions on federal policies and legislation, develops strategies and approaches for effective advocacy, and researches, analyzes, and evaluates federal issues, legislation, rules and regulations
� Researches legislative issues and assists in the development of testimony, draft legislation, position papers, and client reports
� Works with Government Relations team members to be influential in the legislative process
� Monitors and reports on legislative proposals of interest to company and clients
� Establishes and maintains relationships with public officials
� Provides timely communication to internal and external contacts regarding amendments to or action taken on relevant bills
� Meets with legislators, regulators and their staff to discuss potential or proposed legislative, regulatory or policy initiatives, and accompanies clients to such meetings/hearings as appropriate
� Identifies political trends that could impact the company and its clients over time;
� Submits summaries of key legislative, regulatory and political developments on a weekly basis
� Completes, files, and maintains any required certifications and documentation as a lobbyist representative, as required by law.
Qualifications:Requirements:
� BS/BA degree
� A minimum of 10 years work experience in Government Relations and/or as a Congressional staff person related to the energy industry.
� In-depth knowledge of Congress and the legislative process
� Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communications and analytical skills
� Established relationships with members of Congress and their staff.

Highly desirable skills include: Extensive private sector, Hill or administration experience with particular knowledge in the energy industry.

Recommended advanced degree (i.e., Law degree, Master's degree, etc.).
